I have another ultra-hip Swedish brand to introduce you to. I’ve been a bit light on my Scandinavian showcasing of late, but I return with a big bang of a brand. With the snow being a tad slow, and instead having to make-do with a slushy, wet alternative, a waterproof outer layer is a must. So, let me introduce you to raincoat brand Stutterheim.
Stutterheim aren’t the only Scandinavian raincoat retailer to have cropped up of late, Danish brand Rains are doing interesting things in this space too, but Stutterheim have a great story behind them, and what can I say, I love a good story. As a child Alexander Stutterheim greatly admired his grandfather who worked as a fisherman in the Stockholm archipelago. When Alex grew up, he discovered his grandfather’s old rain coat in an abandoned barn and was struck by the incredible functionalism of the garment, and equally it’s potential for ultra-cool status. He updated the waterproof to create a desirable garment for the contemporary man or woman. With his humble prototype in hand, Alex went to the last textile factory in Sweden where a team of three helped him realise his dream of producing a durable and fashionable raincoat.
And fashionable this raincoat is. So fashionable in fact that Stutterheim was selected for the Barney’s x Jay Z Christmas capsule collection entitled “Introducing a New York Holiday” . Working with Mr Carter, Stutteheim created an exclusive, limited edition raincoat that’s currently available at the luxury New York department store.
Stutterheim raincoats are available from XXS to XL, so cater for both sexes, and models come in a variety of colours – I’m wearing navy blue. I’m also wearing a sweatshirt from fellow Scandinavian brand ACNE.
