From the age of nine to thirteen my grandmother tried to teach me to knit, enticing me with brightly coloured balls of wool with the potential to yarn myself a kaleidoscopic wardrobe of outerwear. The world was my fluffy oyster, all I needed was patience. Aaaaah, that.

For all my hours spent knitting one and purling two, all I had ever produced was a wonky burgundy scarf that wouldn’t keep a chihuahuas ears toasty….so I eventually abandoned my Appalachian ambitions and took up Italian (che io non parlo ancora).

Despite my unfruitful efforts I have since harboured a love for all things woolly, from the garish Christmas jumper retrieved once a year, to the prickly poncho donned for festival season. Although there is no shortage of fashionable knitted goods in the womanswear marketplace, there is something undisputedly sexy about a slouchy men’s jumper on a woman, so here are some of my personal favs:

1. The Crue

This cotton, wool and silk melange V neck in bottle green from Gant Rugger has arrived for me today. Having sported it in blue and grey for the last few months in a size L, I’m looking forward to wearing it in a size that fits me – photo to follow.

2. The Elder Statesman

For those who are not strapped for cash, The Elder Statesman is a gift from relaxed, luxury knitwear heaven. Greg Chait, established the brand  in 2007 specialising in luxurious cashmere pieces with LA inspired design and feel. This intarsia cashmere sweater entitled Sun and Moon is a relaxed garment with fantastic detail on the front and back.

3. The Scandi-knit

Acne is the quintessential Scandinavian brand; born in Stockholm and raised on unisex denim, today the brand produces wearable ahead-of-the-trend designs for both men and women. Their mission statement is ‘Ambition to Create Novel Expression’ and what better way to express yourself than the Cusco stripe sweater available in navy and dark purple. It’s chunky without being bulky and its fashioned sleeves and ribbed hem make it the ideal partner in crime for some skinny 5 pocket jeans from their women’s collection.
