Have you noticed that there’s a rather fishy trend going on? I was browsing my favourite online fashion destinations and noticed a pattern in my search results; Markus Lupfer tropical fish print joggers, ISSA underwater kaftan, Maison Scotch fish embroidered bomber, We are Handsome jelly fish leggings, and so the list goes on. Yep, fish are the birds of yester-season. Our crustaceous friends are adorning some key SS14 pieces and I have my eye on these five in particular…

1. Newly graduated from the London College of Fashion, Aristides Vanis showed his AW14 collection at London Fashion Week to critical acclaim. The collection was a striking menswear line of vivid prints and bright colours that drew inspiration from his childhood memories. A stand out piece by the Greek designer, was without a doubt this jacket – I mean who doesn’t love a 3D fish, hey?lucian_ed_fy5Kenzo have been making waves with their “No Fish, No Nothing” collection created in partnership with the Blue Marine foundation. A vibrant collection of fish themed unisex pieces have been created to promote the conservation of our endangered marine life. The tiger adorned sweaters of last season have now been replaced with bold fish prints, and I am lusting after the this particular white one. f451to828928.01_0How does Phillip Lim do it, hey? The Chinese designer turned contemporary fashion on its head when he launched in 2005, and has expanded into children’s clothing, swimwear, luxurious ready-to-wear and covetable handbags. My favourite piece from his SS14 line is without a doubt this mesh bomber – pure perfection.  S214-6438PLO-BLK_blk_hero_0

4. Like so many of my new designer finds, I discovered Au Jour le Jour via blogger Susie Lau. Mirko Fontana and Diego Marquez started the label in 2010 and are challenging our ideas of Italian contemporary fashion. Their SS14 collection features embroidered barbie dolls and flowers on vibrant fabrics, as well as the reoccurring print of  an orca. OK, I’ve watched Black Fish I know a killer whale is not a “fish” per se, but damn does it look good on this pleated dress.
