When I tell Swedes I’ve moved over to Stockholm for six months, they look at me with a smirk and say “for the winter? Are you crazy? Why?” – they don’t mince their words our Nordic neighbours. There is no Indian summer occurring over here, we are skirting around the zeros and I’m having to ditch my favourite summer staples in favour of more wintery gear.

I have learnt a thing or two about practical dressing since I’ve arrived – one is that the average Stockholmite always looks fashionable because they think in lines, draping layers of fabrics from their bodies elongating their already long legs and torso, and the second is that its all about quality fabrics and a rather neutral colour palette – this does not come naturally to a small blogger with a Brazilian mother who has dressed her in neon since day dot. However, heading over to Skansen (an outdoor museum) the other day where there was an autumn market taking place (meatballs and cinnamon buns anyone?) I thought I would try out the trend amongst a rather beautiful Swedish setting. Here’s what I wore:

Winterwinter2

I am obsessed with the brogues I’m wearing. I had been crushing on a menswear pair by Church’s entitled The Burwood, and then out of the blue on a recent visit to Russell & Bromley the team showed me these rather spiffing numbers boasting a similar studded pattern. I’m wearing them with a pair of pleather trousers, which incidentally I discovered may be waterproof but do not keep much heat in (a bit like wellies). Also from womenswear I’m wearing a United Colours of Benetton wool coat from a few seasons ago.

The t-shirt I’m wearing is by the design collective teeeshit, who produce unisex clothing. Now, I’m not always big on t-shirts (usually sporting tailored shirts myself) but the designs that this Swedish duo produce are simple gorgeous, think whimsical illustrations of fairytale subject matter – the one I’m sporting is entitled Wolf Boy.

Stolen from the menswear aisles I’ve got my GAP trucker style indigo shirt on, which is super cosy, and to keep my ears toasty I’ve got this awesome beanie from Swedish label Brixtol. I discovered this “designed in Stockholm, made in Britain” brand whilst attending a launch party at Swedish hipster hangout Grandpa, a store I would highly recommend if you want to seek out Scandinavian menswear with a twist.
