The chino has come a long way since your Dad was sporting them in a toasted beige colour, ill-fitted and coupled with a pair of spotless running trainers and white socks to boot. Today the chino is a wardrobe staple and available in all shapes, sizes, colours and cuts. Far more versatile than  the jean, the chino made a come back last year and hasn’t shifted since.

This season, colour is ‘in’, whether it be bright purples or subtler pastel shades, men are embracing a varied palette, and the blog (so eloquently entitled) lookatmyfuckingredtrousers is testament to the spectrum of men being emboldened by the trend.

The lovely folks at GANT, who have been tailoring chinos since their birth in 1949 got in touch and set me a task entitled The Chino Challenge.

One pair of coloured chinos, two weeks to wear them, three ways to style them.

Chino Challenge – Look 1

Chino Challenge Look 1

I have been searching for some women’s monk brogues for AGES  and finally Russell & Bromley have delivered a sleek pair in tan leather, ideal for pairing with my newly acquired chinos. Powder blue looks great with natural and earthy tones (i.e. khakis, beiges and greys) so have slipped on a denim Urban Outfitters shirt buttoned to the top, a men’s GANT Rugger Crue in bottle green and an old favourite of mine, this five buttoned, madras blazer from United Colours of Benetton.

All my bits and bobs are stashed away in my old school satchel (#vintage), my belt is a LDN market place find, and I’m sporting one of my favourite pair of Harper spectacle frames to complete the look.

Who would have thought you could make men’s chinos look so hot? Top chinos. Top outfit.
