So yesterday I introduced you to the first look from the MTWTFSS/HE SS14 collection where I featured a white leather jacket and a floor-length dress come thawb. Some friends of mine looked at my pictures and immediately declared the outfit womenswear not unisex – but is it? Why is a dress anymore womenswear than menswear? Did you feel it was a gender neutral outfit? What do you associate with genderless fashion?

To be honest I think it’s really challenging to abandon all notion of what is traditionally womenswear and menswear and take an openminded approach to clothing – I definitely felt more feminine wearing yesterday’s outfit than todays, and I PREFER wearing mens clothing to women’s – go figure right?

Here is my second look, styled with no make-up and slicked back hair – is this a more accurate portrayal of ‘androgynous’ or ‘unisex’ fashion? Leave a comment, I’d love to know what you think. I’m still figuring it out.WEEKDAY DAY 2WEEKDAY Look 2 b

Love both looks which are so different. I think unisex fashion means clothes both sexes would feel comfortable wearing and clothes that aren’t immediately recognizable as belonging to a particular sex.

I would agree with that, although unisex and the ‘androgynous’ look tend to differ at times so, in a funny way, it almost depends for what you are going for. Is it an item of clothing that is for either gender, but not necessarily genderless or a question of a completely genderless garment which adds to the wearer’s androgyny? Ultimately, it is probably the way it is styled as opposed to the actual clothing. An androgynous female tends to sport more masculine clothes and can be true of a man doing the opposite to create the genderless look. Just a thought. Interesting stuff!
