Brit heritage brand Barbour have done it again. After the success of their collaborations with Paul Smith, Alice Temperley and Anya Hindmarch, they are adding yet another designer name to their roster with the announcement of a womenswear capsule collection with Christopher Raeburn.

Christopher Raeburn’s womenswear and menswear collections are a rare partnership of aesthetics and ethics, with the British designer pioneering sustainable fashion that marries function with form. Known for using innovative materials, his SS14 womenswear collection featured insulation fabrics made of recycled plastic bottles and ’cool wool’, a material that naturally regulates body temperature. Barbour too, is known for incredibly functional garments with durable outerwear at its core and is today one of Britain’s better know heritage brands.

The capsule collection will centre around the Ursula suit, which was designed in 1937 for Captain George Philips. Philips took command of the Ursula submarine and requested that Barbour design a two piece suit for the Submarine service based around the Barbour motorcycle suit which was incredibly resilient against water. Christopher Raeburn was drawn to the story, and Vogue reports that we can expect a functional “fun, feminine” collection with Barbour’s distinctive plaid and Raeburn’s signature snow spot featuring throughout. I for one, cannot wait.

The Barbour x Christopher Raeburn collection will be available August 2014. You can view Barbour’s current designer collaboration with Bella Freud here.
