DSC_2993-4 When dapper-dressing, it’s all about the details. A man (or a woman) can rock the most beautifully tailored two-piece suit, but it’s the finishing touches that elevates ones status from smart-dressed to sartorially-blessed.

If you’re a bit of a dandy anyway, and own stylish socks in abundance, pocket-squares galore, the finest silk bow-ties on the market and a slip case that’s still mooing, the leather is such high-quality – what accessory have you probably not invested in yet? Well, more than likely, the boutonniere.

If you’re not familiar with boutonnieres, they are the male equivalent of a corsage – a floral decoration worn in the buttonhole of a blazer or jacket, and Boutonniere (with a capital B) is a company bringing the buttonhole back.DSC_3001-3Chris Harrap, the brains behind Boutonniere, noted that despite most mens blazers and suits having a hole in their lapels to house a pin, men rarely wore them, except for on formal occasions. Time are a changing though, and with men taking an increased interest in fashion, Chris saw a gap in the market for the button hole accessory.

Boutonniere’s intricate pieces are shaped like roses and are available in pink and white porcelain. Handmade in Italy by a family business of artisans, the roses are constructed from Capidomonte porcelain and mated (in London) to a stainless steel or sterling silver clasp, also handmade in Sheffield. Chris likes to keep things local, and even Boutonniere’s packaging and presentation boxes are made in Sheffield.

Us girls can of course get in on the action too, but unfortunately most women’s blazers do not come equipped with button holes. The good news is, most tailors will fit one in for you for a minimal price and in no time at all.

With Christmas around the corner, this is the perfect present for the discerning dresser.DSC_2989-4What I’m wearing: River Island menswear shirt, United Colours of Benetton blazer, TM Lewin wool scarf, Topshop jeans, Russell & Bromley monk strap shoes, vintage satchel.

A well coordinated flower lapel pin is the best, and these porcelain ones are so beautiful! I’ve been picking up little cheapie ones from ASOS, but I’m now putting these on my wishlist. =)
