raeburnChristopher Raeburn blends urban functionality with a strong commitment to sustainability. His eco-friendly tag, means that his collections are never to be taken at face value alone. Though they may be aesthetically pleasing, its how they are made and what they are capable of doing that make them all the more inviting.

Raeburn uses shower-proof laminated linen, Eco-PrimaLoft (an insulation fabric made of recycled plastic bottles) and ‘cool wool’, a material that naturally regulates body temperature throughout his SS14 collection. He’s updated his signature repurposed parachute silk with camouflage mesh to create highly durable outerwear ideal for Britain’s rainy seasons. Themed around the desert, the collection nods to warmer climes but is capable of withstanding our more dreary European weather.

Other than the occasional injection of aquamarine the colour palette was relatively sombre, featuring muted hues of pink, earthy nude tones, stormy greys and functional blues. Prints have been created by using satellite imagery of the desert, a beautiful detail that is easy to miss.

raeburn2Sports luxe does not have to mean totally androgynous, although there is a distinct tomboy vibe in Raeburn’s SS14 collection, figure hugging dresses worn with matching clutches feature heavily too. However, even a more slinky playsuit has practicality at its heart with a zip that can undo at the waist to create two separates. Function and form are always closely aligned when it comes to Raeburn – the non-fussy backpack is his accessory.

Drawstring waists nipping in parkas, boxy bomber jackets and loose fitted shorts make for a practical modernist theme, with a sports luxe feel.
