One thing I miss about living in London is strolling the streets in the run up to Christmas. The battle for the most beautiful shop window, oversized Christmas trees and brightly coloured lights linking London’s real estate. I was working in Knightsbridge (la-di-da) before moving out to Stockholm, and had prime position for the ultimate Christmas show stand off. Harrods always puts on quite the show, and this year their visual merchandising team have outdone themselves by creating the most glamorous of steam trains, entitled “The Harrods Express”.
As I’m not in the UK this year, I’m not around to choose my carriage, so instead I’m browsing from a distance. Harrods selects all my favourite luxury designers, and houses them under one roof (or within one website in this case!). My top three designers they stock have to be The Row, Stella McCartney and Paul Smith.
Named, after Savile Row the Olsen sisters power-house fashion label The Row is available in abundance at the luxury department store. All clean lines, refined cuts and effortlessly cool wardrobe staples, The Row is a womenswear brand with menswear tailoring at its heart.
If there is one brand which is going to lure me away from menswear this AW13, it’s Stella McCartney. This British designer is setting the trend in oversized, mannish tailoring this season. The pin-stripe midi, boxy blazers and a charcoal coloured oversized coat are all on my Christmas wishlist this year.
Paul Smith is one of Britain’s most iconic designers, having dappled with womenswear, menswear, denim, fragrance, accessories – need I go on? Fine tailoring is at the brands heart. Women have the luxury of shopping both womenswear, and the smaller sizing which is available in the menswear section too.
