My recent collaboration with LoveGold has had me thinking increasingly about the beautiful jewellery items available for men. Traditionally jewellery is associated with the ladies, however men always trop trump us girls in one bejewelled department, and that is the watch.

Ask a room full of men what fashion-related item they wouldn’t mind spending big bucks on, and most of them will respond the wrist watch. And if you want to meet the nerdiest of the menswear enthusiasts, they know the intricacy of their arm candy like no other – I am envious of their expertise!

SONY DSCAs time moves on so has the science behind the watch. No long just a tick-tocking device, brands and manufacturers are releasing specialist items that demonstrate feats of engineering upon a lower arm-sized canvas. Take Linde Werdelin for example, a brand I was acquainted with earlier this year.

Inspired by the aerospace, mechanical engineering and automotive industries, Linde Werdelin have constructed a collection of time pieces that can take their wearers to the highest of mountains (and they have), and to the bottom of the deepest of seas too. Sportswatches in the truest sense of the word, all of Linde Werdelin’s pieces are designed for activity, but the importance of aesthetics and form is never far behind.

I love a brand story, and Linde Werdelin’s had me at hello. The brand was born when co-founder John Werdelin broke his back in a nasty off-piste skiing accident, four years later he partnered with Morten Linde to create “a highly crafted sportswatch” which could be partnered with a sophisticated digital instrument designed for skiing and diving: the lightweight and highly resistant skiing collection is entitled the Spido and the diving, the Oktopus.

lindewerdelinaccessoriesLike something out of a James Bond film, the clip on digital instruments (shown above) are what give this wristwear an additional ounce of cool. The Rock is a tool for off-piste skiing with functions to protect, guide and inform its wearers whilst they are enjoying high altitude mountain sports, and equally, the Reef was developed to provide all the essential information (and them some) for scuba enthusiasts.

In the Linde Werdelin Universe, customisation is all part of the fun. Models can be given a bespoke edge with buckle, screw and strap options. Those who know a thing or two about watches should spend some time exploring the Linde Werdelin website, as there is much to learn about the intricacies and craftsmanship that goes into building one of their pieces, and frankly my limited knowledge of this area would not do it justice. One things for sure, Linde Werdelin marry style and functionality to perfection, and with the constant evolving of  their product, who knows what they will have in store for us next.
