The bowtie was once the nerdiest of neckwear pieces, but as was the case with the cardigan, its now abandoned its geek chic shackles and become a sleek staple for the preppy man about town, and consequently the girl who loves menswear. Forget black tie occasion wear, this nifty little neck piece can be worn dressed down in a neutral, block colour with jeans and a bomber jacket, or dressed up with this seasons evening dark reds and velvets.

My bow tie drawer is still on the modest side, with a collection of muted colours in subtle prints and exclusively pointed and batwing shaped bowties. Now don’t get me wrong I love these models, but I’ve also been after an hourglass bow tie that makes a statement for a while, which was why I was so chuffed when Dunford Wood introduced me to their colourful collection of beautiful hand-painted, vintage print bow ties. If you’re looking for bright colours and bold patterns with no compromise on quality (each bowtie is a one off and is made of British silk), this is the brand for you.

I opted for a bright blue little number, complete with a vibrant red pattern piecing through the turquoise. I’m wearing it with my ASOS menswear cutaway collar shirt, my TOPSHOP porkpie hat, Zara high-waisted suit trousers, my new ACNE boots and lots, and lots of gold bangles.
